In order to become a better writer and note taker, I must first be familiar with the topic I am writing or taking notes about. try to do as much research as possible in order to gather the most information about a certain topic. I must also read the writing requirements very accurately in order to meet all the requirements without missing anything. Also, try to attend all the classes in order to not miss anything the teacher speaks or writes about so you can put it down on your notecard. Lastly, discuss the topic with other friends before writing or taking notes about it so you can see different points of view and have multiple of views when writing.

ReplyDeleteSome ideas are to relax while speaking in public by first to be very prepared about the topic. In order to be very prepared about the topic, I must do a lot of research to gather the most information possible, then get to the presentation date on time and get a good sleep the day before. third, must practice the presentation or public speaking skills all the times in front of people we are comfortable with in order to become a better speaker. Lastly, try to keep calm, look at walls mostly when speaking rather than people because their face expression will make you even more nervous than you are already.

In addition, practicing always is a good way to improve your grade and doing better. Also, speaking in front of people, make some of them shy, but they should trust on themselves always.
I agree with what you said, it's really important to be prepared and ready to speak in public because if we can't be ready then we can't do well, it's kind of scary to me to speak in public even when I have presentation to do, I feel shy and not able to speak even though I have a lot to say, I forget everything. I am trying to do my best on this skill because I have to encourage myself that I can do it otherwise I will not be able to do it forever. Thanks for your post.

Deleteyour post was very helpful to me since I always get afraif when it comes to speak in public, I think that if the perons is quite sure about what he is going to say, the speech will go as well as he thought because if someone has confidece in his self, I am sure that he will do more than he imagine. Public speaking needs a lot of practicing like you said at leat practice your speech infront of people that you know and you feel confident what you look at them because you know the will understand you and this gives you the courge to continue doing what he wants to reach.
In order to become a better writer or note taker, I should prepare myself to read and write notes. There are several ways to take notes, for example, I like to write down the main points, so I can know what is important and what is not. Trying to do research as much as possible in order to gather the most information that I want . Also, trying to attend all the classes, in this case, I will not miss anything the teacher speaks or writes about. Finally, discussing the topic with other friends before writing or taking notes about it, so can see different points, be able to understand, have new ideas, and be flexible when I write certain topics .

ReplyDeleteIt is very important for students to have their own success in college. Their grade is not dependent upon how well they like the subject or how much they believe that the instructor likes them, but rather they control how well they will do in the class. It is important to attend every class unless you absolutely cannot. Purposing to take an interest in the class is also a great way to be successful. Also, sitting as front and center as possible will help so much to keep you focused, especially when taking a subject that is not as much "your thing". Taking notes will also help you to not only pay attention in class but will also help you to be able to review important information later.

I can be a genius to take my steps selective in my life in general. Especially in achieving success in college and through attending lectures every grade and attention to the teacher and take notes and be able to pick out the key points first and then identify the supporting details. As is the case to be in the workplace to be selective and I have a regular schedule to choose to do the most important and most valuable activities. But in my personal life any of my family, edit a them all their requirements because they are the first before everything.
Being selective is just another way to use priorities. I agree that family is important. Good job!

ReplyDeleteIn order to become a better writer and take note, and that by thinking of topics arranged in a logical order, the use of a mind map of the scheme, where keep in mind that we need an introduction, body and conclusion. Then we read the paper step by step to check the spelling error, get a second opinion to achieve clarity and sense, the preparation of the final version of the paper, and the preparation of the title page in a clear and uncluttered.

ReplyDeleteI find that when dealing with these three aspects of life, it is easy to let the lines get really blurred. When at work or at school, it is smart not to let your personal life influence what you are supposed to be doing. The biggest thing is to only bring parts of each aspect into another when it's absolutely necessary. I find it easier to get everything done at one time so that it is no longer something that I have to worry about. If you can keep it all separate, then do it. "Work stays at work," is something my dad always said to me.
Hello Ashley Crawley here i wanted to make a comment on the first quote “The essence of genius is knowing what to overlook.” I believe that this means that you dont have to try and do everything. you dont have to try and take every road to become a genius. You should know what your purpose is and one you know that stay on the road that leads to that purpose. you can overlook the things that will pull you away from that dream or purpose or goal. keep yourself out of trouble overlook it if it going to slow you down. keep your eye on the prize be smart and you will reach your dreams.

ReplyDeleteFor me free writing is easy the hard part for me is i have i think faster then i wright and i end up for getting what i wanted to say and then get stuck on trying to remember that last thought. I know for me i need to slow down when free writing and i need to make side note during free writing. when i have a thought i need t pause and writ that off to the side so that i will remember it. I also need to get back into the habit of mind mapping. that would really help me pull my thoughts togther and go bcak to them if i happen to forget anything. I also would do better if i prepared better and focused up and get my mind ready to write before just jumping into it.

Also, I'm doing the research in the internet about the facts to take the main notes which is useful for me. In addition, organize the ideas carefully and doing it step by step, get help from my friends and discuss the subject together to understand it better. Also, making brainstorm to get the necessary ideas, choosing the important topics, attending the class and don't miss it. When I take the notes in the lecture, I'm always review it as soon as possible after the class to don't forget it and be ready for the exam. At the end, making the reader excited about my subject and then be the person who deserve a good grade.

ReplyDeleteI can taking steps toward being a genius in my personal life by doing everything perfect, organize and thinking positively always. In the school, attending the class every time, listing to the teacher and understand every single important point, taking notes and prepare for the exam, I must making a balance between school and my homework or my personality life and try don't miss something important. Also, trying to choose the right choices to don't fall in a big mistake, focus in the important ideas, be flexible about understand any subject whatever if it's hard or easy, facing all the problems In addition, putting my time in order and manage it to reach to the right choice in my life.
I think it is important to strive for excellence, not necessarily perfection. Striving for perfection is too stressful and often not necessary. Good job!

Also reviewing topic before going to class will make you a better note taker, I usually try to review the chapter before I go to class just so that I don’t spend a lot of my time taking notes and not listening and also it makes it easy to take notes, and last I don’t like wasting time writing everything, it is best to write main points and review them later.

What we write is not important if the reader doesn't understand it. What is more important is to catch his attention because will be a prove how good are we in our writing.

If I do not understand the homework or concept I do researches from the internet to help me find more information and resources. ReplyDeleteIt’s important to take notes because it when you write something down, your brain is going to remember it on the test or on a quiz. If you don’t focus in class and take notes that you think are important you’re going to forget everything in just walking out of the class, because when you don’t focus and take notes your brain just goes somewhere else. When you take notes you’re automatically rehearsing it in your head, so when the test comes up you just need to review the same notes becuase you already had memorized them.

DeleteThere are many ways to become a better note taker and writer. It all begins with taking good notes. Understanding the main idea first and then figuring out the little details after is important. The teacher will always emphasize what is important in the lectures so it is important to pay attention those times. Also, many classes let you see the power points at home so if you can go back and look at them, I would just take notes on what the teacher is saying instead of worrying about writing every word on the power point and not listening to what the teacher is saying. By doing these little steps, my note taking and writing skills will improve.

ReplyDeleteFoe my understating for this quote is when person set up a goal, he has to look for strength and success, motivation, to accomplish this goal.
This quote has many meanings, but the most important is to use priorities.
DeleteTo try and become a better writer I intend on not procrastinating so much with my papers. I found the idea to list out the steps of writing a paper along with a due date of when I want to complete each task by really helpful. I also intend to try and incorporate more academic vocabulary into my writing since I think it is one of my biggest struggles with writing. I also want to work on how I deal with my writer's block since I usually get really frustrated. I need to try and write more freely when that happens instead of focusing on it being perfect.

ReplyDeleteThe biggest piece of advice I took from this section is to organize my home by going through my things and threading out the stuff I don't need. I tend to be a messy person and I think this idea will help a lot. I am also a really busy person who is terrible at managing my time. I need to be selective and prioritize my time.

ReplyDeleteDealing with writer's block is not easy but if you are not thinking of anything to write you should take a short break that will make you rest a little and then go back and start your rough draft. You can not think of anything to write because you are thinking of something else and you can not write anything and plus you don't feel like doing the homework, and it is easier for you to ignore it. It happens to me sometimes when I do not feel like writing the paper or if it was not interesting for me I get bored doing it. Think of something to write so you will finish your writing quickly.

ReplyDeleteTo become a good listener you should sleep well and focus on what your teacher is saying, when you’re listening to your teacher try not to think about anything besides your lesson and this is going to help you remember what you need to know on your test. Also if you’re a good listener this can help you take good notes, notes are really important because they help you memorize your material in your brain while you’re writing it, that’s helping you to get ready for the test, if you study your notes every night you’re going to do good on your test.
I certainly agree with you on all your thread and especially the part when you include being focused on whatever your instructor assigns.
DeleteA way to deal with writer's block is to free write. The best way to free write is to first take a topic and write all the information about what you know about it and continue writing for a certain amount of time, the best time would be between 5 and 10 minutes. You will need to continue writing, or typing without worrying about spelling or punctuation and just write everything down that comes to your mind. I find it best to always start a paper by free writing then going back through everything that I wrote and begin to organize it, so it can have some sort of structure. Free writing helps ease the mind and relax it when starting a paper, so it can also be a stress relief when you start an essay.

When you don't procrastinate and don't leave off studying for exams till the last minute, you will succeed. It is also important to not give up when things are not going well. There is always a chance to turn your grade around, and by doing that you will need to also look over the way you have been working and see if there is anything you need to change to increase your chances of success. A way of increasing your chances is the way you take notes, like we have discussed in this chapter. It is important to find a style that suits the way you study and will help you remember what the main topics were and their explanations.

DeleteI totally agree with your post. I think someones success in college depends on the amount of time and effort they put into it. Like anything in life that is worth anything, you must make an effort and you must put in the time necessary. Persistence is key to success in my opinion. I also believe that you can increase your chances of success in college is by finding a study method that fits that person and you will find that method by trial and error.
hi Hannah i completely agree with you on your post. Hard work and effort is big when wanting to be successful in any part of life. when people leave assignments or work to later on in there day or weak it just makes it more difficult and more stressful on themselves rushing to get it done.

Listening is the most important skill that we can all benefit from developing and it also has a main influence to avoid conflict and misunderstandings. DeleteI would like to address an academic topic relevant to my life in college at the moment. I am constantly talking to other kids my age and people who have already graduated college, about classes and their work load specifically. Each time I hear mostly the same thing; people doing the absolute bare minimum in order to pass a class. Maybe its just because I am in a junior college and still have the pressure of transferring, but it seems like the college system as a whole isn't taken as seriously by other four year university students. Maybe this is only my perspective but I feel like the social pressures revolving junior college to transfer and get it done as soon as possible drive our students more than the regular 4 year universities that guarantee a degree with a pass in most classes. Sorry, partial vent, partial food for thought.
ReplyDeleteI think you make an important point about many students doing the bare minimum to pass. It causes a lot of dropouts and lack of success in college. If the same attitude is used in the workplace, work quality suffers also.
DeleteI think a major key to finding success in life and making your life the most productive it can be is by being selective. By being selective in all aspects of your life you are weighing the pros and cons of each decision and choice in life, and carefully thinking out its repercussions before making a decision. This can be said in an academic setting, a social setting or a work place. Your life is whatever you invest your time in. If you waste your time with the wrong people, doing things that will only hold you back or delay your steps to a successful you than you are doing yourself a disservice and hurting yourself in the long run.

ReplyDeletePersonally, I believe the greatest thing you can be selective with is your time. Time is of essence that will never be returned to you; so wasted time is something you want to avoid if possible. You can avoid wasted time by being selective with the teacher you choose to enroll in classes with, check rate my professor and read the comments thoroughly so you know you will be able to learn effectively from their teaching style. If you have to miss class, be selective with which lecture or day you are missing so you’re not missing out on the biggest projects, lectures, or points towards your grade.
Additionally, be very selective with who you share your time with. Spend time with friends and family who share the same goals as you do. People who will support you along your journey to success and want to help you succeed by giving you positive reinforcements and corrective criticism. Most importantly selective friends who will motive you and not provoke you to make decisions that are not in your best interest.

ReplyDeleteI intend to get my writing done before it is due so that I have more time to review it and look over it making sure that I complete it correctly and to my best ability. I will focus on it piece by piece instead of rushing through it in a day or two. When it comes to note taking I will make sure I am organized and writing down the most important things instead of trying to write down everything I will be focusing on key points and main ideas.

ReplyDeleteIn order for me to become a better writer, I believe that it ties into being a good note taker as well. If I don't have good note taking skills, I would not be able to put down good information on my paper. I have to make sure I am taking notes on key points and know enough information so that I am able to put together nice introduction, body and conclusion paragraphs. Once I have the necessary notes and sources needed to begin writing, the next step would be to brainstorm on a separate sheet of paper,what my main topic is. Around that, I will have a start of my intro paragraph, main points that I will include in my body paragraphs, and then I will restate my thesis and conclude the essay. The brainstorming is important in being able to start the paper because sometimes I space out and i don't know where to start. I begin writing my paper, and when finished, I will edit, revise, and proofread to be extra safe for any grammatical or punctual errors.
