  1. There are lots of ways I motivate myself to become successful. One way is by thinking positive. Having positive thoughts is an important key to success. For example, I know that I want to become a nurse and help people in the future so by telling myself that I have this personality and I am capable of achieving this goal, I am being a positive thinker. This will better my chances to being successful. Something interesting I picked up on in this chapter was intrinsic motivation. This motivation comes from within and I feel that it is highly important that I have this type of motivation in order to be successful in college.

  2. Personally, I am not thinking of dropping this class, therefore I am already motivated to stay and learn how to become a better and more successful person. To answer the question, if I was to ever consider dropping the course or dropping out of college completely, I would motivate myself to continue. How? I would remind myself of who I am. I would remember what my purpose in life is and what steps I have to take in order to accomplish my goals. I would look at how far i have gotten until now which will make me realize that I am worth a lot more than I think. Of course everyone has some obstacles in their lives that make it hard at times, but there are always ways to overcome them. The pain I have in my neck and back cause me to want to give up at times. Thinking of finances and paying bills can be a struggle which gets in the way of education. Having personal problems at home is a distraction as well. All of these things are roadblocks, but I know that I have it easier than others and that these are all challenges that make a a stronger person in the end. I overcome them by saying that everything is going to be okay and there is a bright future with my name on it. No one has commented on this blog yet but I am sure that everyones ideas would be useful to me!!!

  3. I've realized that motivation through others can only take you so far, and that in order to be truly successful you need to be self motivated. To motivate myself I try to focus on the things I want from life, both materialistic and as a person, where I want to be and what I hope to accomplish, then I try and focus on what I'm doing at the moment in order to help accomplish those goals for the future. In terms of school, I like the idea that was discussed in chapter 1 about finding something in each class that truly interests me in order to be more intrinsically motivated to succeed in that class. I know that for me personally, the more interested I am in something, and the more I can get out of something the more time and effort I will dedicate to that subject.

  4. In terms of road blocks to my success, I think balancing time between working, staying fit and still managing to be young and have fun is going to be the most challenging. I'm already starting to get a little stressed about how I'm going to manage taking five classes and working 4-5 days out of the work. In order to overcome this I'm going to have to stay really focused and motivated, probably more than I ever have had to. Time management is going to be my biggest asset. I think as long as I keep my priorities straight I will be okay. School needs to be at the top of my list, but I'm sure we can all relate to the stresses of everyday life and how they can easily cloud where our time and thoughts should be going towards. A positive mindset is also going to have to play a big part in terms of my motivation so I'm just trying to take it day by day!

  5. The word motivation can be a positive or negative but it's only reflect on how you as a person interpret the word and what course of action you take. On the positive side you can motivate yourself by looking at the intrinsic rewards which was discuss n chapter 1. I motivate myself by looking back at where I come from and what I want to achieve. I grew up in a third world country and very poor. My life was not as fortunate as the average kid growing up. I said to myself that the only way I can end the vicious cycle of poverty is by getting an education together with work experience. Once I set realistic and attainable goals it motivated me to go to college and enjoy learning. I have a burning desire to succeed and help the less fortunate because I like helping people;it is the most positive thing you can do and do not use success for your own selfish gain. Chapter one has indeed broaden my knowledge about been successful and set the foundation for my motivation.

  6. Based on my experience, looking to the near future is definitely a motivator for me. I visualize the reward of hard working, hours invested in studying, classes, and for me that translates into high probabilities of employment, skills, etc. But I don't want to daydream too much, so I keep my feet on the ground. Looking into the past is good too. It makes you realize how much you have evolve and success from your previous "states" of education (high school, elementary, middle school). Being independent makes me more proud of myself, making me more confident and motivated when facing any kind of obstacle,

  7. I found Chapter 1 very helpul. It made me realize how little rewards can be great motivators. I'm goint to start using the "Eight steps to change a Habit" in my everyday life. Chapter 1 made me realize I've been using Internal Lotus Of Control my entire life without knowing it. I'm not planning to drop this course because I find it very convenient and Chapter I has already made me realize the usefulness of this course. When I read the blog comments, I noticed similar thinking to mine. I didn't find something that I already knew. For me the main obstacle is persistance. From what I understood from Chapter I, I think Persistance and Patience are the strongest skills to be successful.

  8. The way I motivate myself is by thinking positively about my studies and education. For instance, when I do poorly on a test, I don't let negative thoughts take advantage. I try to think of how I can change my studying style or the amount time I out into studying as a way to get a more satisfying grade. Also when I am taking a class I have much dislike for, I try to look for a better outcome that could happen in the future from taking that class. If I work hard and try my best, I can achieve my goal for the class while also having a positive impact on my overall education goal. Trying in a class can not harm me, it only helps me.

  9. I find the concept on motivation about finding a way to make studies interesting to be very helpful. Sometimes when I dislike a class, I think of only how much I dislike it instead of finding a way I can enjoy it. Having a better mindset about my education, I will need to be more positive in finding ways to make classes likable in the classes I dislike most. I also find that looking for new ways to focus and improve my attention to be helpful too. I've always been the type of person who has a short attention span and always being easily distracted. Finding new ways to concentrate will help me learn more than I could compared to learning while also being distracted.

  10. I keep myself motivated to be successful by always keeping my determined goal in my mind and knowing that the only way to reach it is to stay motivated. Hard work always pays off in the end and I know that as long as I keep working hard I will get to where I want to be and need to be. I set weekly goals, and monthly goals to accomplish what I need to within the given time. Something I found interesting while reading chapter one is that rewarding yourself to stay motivated can really be great help to you.

  11. If I ever think about dropping this class or any class I would think to myself how in any way that would benefit me because in reality it would only be pushing me back and I would still need to take it again. Therefore staying in any class and pushing myself to work harder can help me remain successful in the class. A roadblock to success is who you surround yourself around and if it is a negative environment that will not be beneficial to you but the way to overcome it is pick a more positive environment that can actually be great help to you and benefit you.

  12. Hello,

    1. How do you motivate yourself to be successful?

I motivate myself by pushing it toward success, I always remind myself that I need to do this and that even If I have a hard time in doing them, I don't look back because I know that the future will be better for me if I trust myself and believe in what I am doing, I remind myself that I need to learn and improve my language, I remind myself that all this work will pay off at the end if I focus and do what I suppose to do on time. Life is short but full of challenges and we have to jump over them to get to its core.

    4. What are some roadblocks to your success and how can you overcome them?

Some roadblocks to my success are having the fear of not accomplishing what I want and can't do what is required to be done. Sometimes I face some problems that I can't get over them and this makes me thinking again and asking myself am I doing good? or I should stop, but when I understand the material and do my homework on time, I feel happy and positive about myself and want to keep going again. Nothing can stop us from doing what we love even if we struggle, we can handle it and do it more than once, then we will success.

There is a way to motivate myself to work hard , I don't think about it as hard work. I think about it as part of making myself into who I want to be like teacher, engineer and doctor..extra. Also, I will take care about my major to be successful in my life.

  14. In chapter 1 I found some new ideas on motivation interesting. I learn that motivation is very psychological and I have to do with one inner self. The introduction of chapter one with the questions been ask gave me clear idea on how I should motivate myself as a person . I learn to avoid multitasking which I am guilty of as a person. Managing your external environment is also a very important factor towards one success and exercising optimism. As mention in chapter 1 you have to ask yourself questions such as what is the value of college and what I intend to get out of college. I also learn to be persistent in whatever I do because it will only make the goals accomplish more easily and choosing positive habits that lead to success

If I faced any roadblocks, I will overcome them like If I want to study something ,I should search about sources and do several attempts to reach to my goal, even If I don't get anything I will try to do something else until I get it. However, I have a lot of keys to motivate myself. one of these keys is focusing in my studying and get done all class that I need because what I think is that educations is the most important thing in life to be successful. The other key that I use it to motivate myself is the confidence. I always be confident about myself and about what I do. I never give up in my life, and I usually get whatever I'm looking for. That is how I am, and how motivate myself.

  17. I will never think to drop this class or the whole semester. But if I have to, I will motivate myself to not dropping the class by pushing my limit and study harder and harder. Three semesters ago, I took English class. After a while I felt I won't pass the class because it was hard. I dropped the class and I got a(W). I started thinking why I can't do it? why it's hard to me to pass the class? I decided to go back to the class again, And I did. I kept studying and I passed all the quizzes, tests, and exams. I got (B+) at the end of the semester. It really was good lesson and experience to learn that people don't have certain amount of limit to stop.

Also, I always look forward and work hard to reach all things that I want in the future; I don’t look at the mistakes or bad situations happened to me in the past. I remind myself to not quit and remember myself of who I am. Some roadblocks to my success are having fear of not accomplishing what I want. For example, when I take new class I feel scared to not pass them or they will be hard for me because this is first time taking them. I sit by myself and think about what I want to accomplish and what I want to be in the future; however, I overcome them by working hard and I always remind myself if I want something it will not come to me easily I have to work hard because working hard always pays off at the end. 20. I motivate myself to be successful by thinking positively and by not giving up on something I want to do. Because I work full time, I sometimes find it very difficult for me to catch up on the homeworks and the tests. What keeps me wanting to stay in college is thinking about my future, and I think education is important. In chapter one, I found a lot of things that was very helpful. For example, the degrees people get and the amount they get paid. It makes me think that I shouldn't choose an easy major just because I'm lazy now and I don't want to do a lot of work, but I should choose something that will benefit me in the future. The larger degree you got the more money you make.

I only take two- three classes per semester. The only roadblock I have is time management, I don't know how to manage my time. I can overcome them by trying to divide my time. 23. 1. How do you motivate yourself to be successful?

    Hello,

Attending college is not that easy, so when I attended college, I motivate myself by spending lots of time on studying, even my classes are not that hard, but I do my best so my grades don't go down. I look forward to what the future is going to bring to me if I keep going. Success is not hard if we give all we have to reach it and become successful in every single step we get through.
Motivation gives us what we really need not just to be successful, but to have the hope in ourselves so we can build our future.

    3. If you are thinking about dropping this class or dropping out of college, how can you motivate yourself to continue?

Why would I think or want to drop this class if I wanted from the beginning? If I can't make it through a class, how would I make it through the whole semester?
No, dropping is not the way to to choose, I would rather fail in this class and learn from my mistakes than dropping because is worse for me in this situation. All the classes I am taking, I am taking them for a reason, and these reason are to push me through and make me better not worse. I want to learn lots of things, that's why I am here!

  24. 1. How do you motivate yourself to be successful?

I motivate myself to be successful by constantly reassuring myself that I can accomplish anything as long as I set my mind to it. I also have a lot of support from my husband and my family members and this helps out very much. I try to stay/think positive in every situation, even if it happens to be negative. I look for an alternative route in many things that I do, and this helps me stay motivated in conquering my goals.

    2. Are there some new ideas on motivation in Chapter 1 that you find interesting or helpful?

In chapter 1, I found intrinsic motivation to be the most interesting and the most helpful. Some people do not realize how much their thoughts can affect them. Each person, including myself, is guilty for placing the blame on someone else for your own failure. It is a lot easier to put the blame on others before pointing fingers at yourself. Instead of pointing fingers at others, we should evaluate ourselves and try to come up with different strategies on how to become successful. Many of our problems come from internal, and once we figure out ways to change them that is when we become unstoppable.

  25. 3. If you are thinking about dropping this class or dropping out of college, how can you motivate yourself to continue?

I would speak to someone who I know has my best interest at heart first (my mother). Sometimes all someone might need is a little reassurance that they are doing the right thing. My motivation usually comes from my grades. When I see that all that time I spent studying paid off, I am instantly motivated and reassured that I am doing the right thing by going to collage.

    4. What are some roadblocks to your success and how can you overcome them?

There can be many roadblocks to my success, and I expect them. To overcome them, I try and stay positive. I think of alternatives that I can do to overcome them, and with persistence and dedication I will be successful.

  26. I motivate myself to be successful in various ways. I constantly use the locus of control by telling myself that I am in charge of my own destiny and that if I don’t try hard enough I won’t get to where I need to be. Usually this works by itself since the career I am seeking doesn’t much room for error since it is highly competitive and any mess-up will only make my journey all the more challenging. Staying positive and rewarding myself are other methods I use, thinking positive and not putting myself down allows me to encourage myself even if I do not produce as much achievement as I strive for. Rewarding myself when necessary allows me to feel an instant praise and acknowledgement which allows me to take pride in my work and want to seek further rewards. I don’t feel that I will be dropping this course let alone college since I have learned how to adequately motivate myself to staying successful and on track in my studies.

  27. As far as roadblocks that will interfere with my education I believe it would mainly be due to time management. I feel that at times I could make better use of my time since I do not divide my time fairly amongst family friend’s school, and studying. In order for me to overcome this roadblock I would need to better manage my time so I allow myself enough time for myself so I don’t feel overworked or rushed in-between different parts of my daily schedule. A concept that I found interesting in chapter one would be trying to make your studies more interesting. I’ve used this method several times but never really put much thought into how it worked and whether or not I was weird for trying to relate my studies to something I already know and have an interest in. this method was by far one of the most interesting and surprisingly useful methods I’ve used to understand various subject especially in history courses.

I always look forward in everything and never go back to reach all things that I need it in my life especially my education. if I keep trying working hard and do the best, I will achieve what I want to become in the future even I do any mistake that's will help me to learn from my mistake and never fault again. 29. I do not strive to be perfect or the best, I strive to be successful. To find my full potential as a mother and person. There are times when I do not feel motivated, and at those times I think about the end result. For example: when I do not want to read a chapter or write an essay I tell myself, “ This is one step closer to receiving your degree.” In addition to keeping myself motivated, I think about my children. Thinking about my children helps me get motivated knowing that my hard work will result in a better future for them and myself. After reading chapter one, I was unaware that I have been driven with intrinsic motivation and driven with internal locus control. With that said, I am not planning on dropping this course because I have found that it is very informative and can help me become a better person, if I practice what is suggested.

I also have a list of motivation quotes that I read once I wake up and once before I go to sleep. These motivation quotes keep me positive through out the day, while I'm in class and at home with my family. Also, my family is a big part of my motivation to be successful in school and in life. Without them as being my biggest supporters, I would not have the motivation to go back to school because it’s been so long. For me, the fear of failing and disappointing loves ones are the two roadblocks that I do not want to ever cross and they help to keep me motivated. I also, like to keep people in my corner that have my best interest at heart, people that motivate me and also give me a good nudge when it need it. I always like to surround myself with successful people, people who are doing better than I am, and people who are traveling down the same path as I am. Your surroundings can help either uplift you or bring you down, so I think it is imperative to one’s success. In addition, words are influential because they contour our views and govern our actions, so the removal of bummer words will help with to keep negative thoughts low and motivation high. Also some times we forget them after a while so this make us feel that we will not be able to do it and we need more time, but if we don't focus on our weakness and focus on our power we will know that nothing can stop us because everything in this life is hard and if you want to get it you need to try us much us you can to make it a reality not just a dream.

I want to be successful in life and I think the major that I chose is the best major for me and I’m going to be successful through it. The most important things in my life. I also chose this major because I like little kids, it’s so easy to communicate with them and yeah!

  40. 1. I motivate myself to be successful by telling myself how beneficial the activity will be for my future and imagining myself at my dream school and eventually my dream job. I also use the reward system often. For example, for every thirty minutes I sit down and do homework I'll take a twenty minute break.

    2. The idea of affiliation being a motivator was interesting to me because I never thought of it as being a motivator before. However, I completely understand it because when I was on Grossmont's club council I felt more motivated to do well with other students being so successful.

  41. 3. I think my biggest road block in school so far has been motivating myself in my studies when I had not declared a major. I felt like I was putting so much effort into something without knowing what my outcome was going to be. However, now that I have picked a major I am a lot more self-motivated and hopefully it continues.

    4. I read a comment of a women who was returning back to school and also a mom who needed to work on her time management. I am a very adventurous and active person so convincing myself to sit down and study is really hard and I usually procrastinate everything. So, time management will definetly be something I work on this semester.

  42. If I’m ever temped to drop out of college it would be because of a significant life tragedy. The steps that I’m going to take to be persistent in achieving my goals are to always study two hours every day to be ready for any quiz or test. It’s never good to change your goals since it would be a sense of failure. One must stay with our goals until they get reached. Persistence has always been a great factor in my accomplishments and will always be.

  43. I motivate myself by thinking positive, when you think positive and work it will pay off for sure. I believe that education and hard work will make me establish myself an individual at an early age. I think that education opens doors, here in the united states we have a great education system, we get to pick what we want to be in the future and after graduating we have access to verity of jobs. Also my family is a big part of my life and they always motivate me, I have an amazing husband and family. If I didn’t have their support maybe I would be easier to give up on school but when you surround yourself with amazing people it will be easier to accomplish your goals.

  45. 1. I will not be dropping out of this class because I need it to succeed. Staying in this class helps me to finish my general education while I determine what i want to major in. Knowing that staying in the course will help me to get my major helps me to stay motivated and makes it easier to do the work.

    2. I stay motivated to do school work by keeping enough spare time to do things i'm interested so that its worth it. The reward system is really helpful to me and often keeps me from procrastinating when it comes to assignments in school.

  46. The roadblocks to my success are my full time job and procrastination. In order to overcome them I have to work around them. My full time job is now a carrier for me that started two years ago. The only bad thing about it is that I work for emergency response and most of the time I have to extend my shift. I just have to get in the habit of studying two to three hours of study time every day. Being consistent in my assignments will help me stop waiting until the last minute to finish my homework.

  47. 1. I motivate myself by forming a schedule and sticking to it. I believe having a schedule and sticking to it will lead you to the goals you want to achieve. Thinking about the future and the reasoning behind why i'm studying also really motivates me to keep going. Setting a goal I can easily progress on also motivates me because setting an unrealistic goal and seeing no progress almost makes it pointless. My future motivates me to be successful.

  51. 2. Are there some new ideas on motivation in Chapter 1 that you find interesting or helpful?

There are several topics in Chapter 1 regarding motivation that I found intriguing such as the difference between Intrinsic and Extrinsic motivation. Intrinsic is a motivation that comes from within having the drive and passion for something so deep that you motivate yourself to persevere. Extrinsic motivation is executed by external rewards with the goal of achieving certificates, money, praise, or recognition for your motivation. Personally, I believe I have an intrinsic motivation towards my schooling and career. I have such a sincere passion for forensics I strive to learn and become better at it in every aspect.

  52. 1. I always motivate my self by thinking of the good future that I will have if I reach my goal and have higher degree and have more chances to get a job. Being successful as a student and attaining your dreams begin with motivation. It provides the energy or drive to find your direction and to reach your goals. Without motivation, it is difficult to accomplish anything.

  53. 4. What are some roadblocks to your success and how can you overcome them?

Over the past year I have been finishing my Associates Degree in Forensic Science and applying to several police agencies in Orange County, CA. I applied to Cal State Long Beach to their Criminology program. I have worked extremely hard to take all the necessary classes and requirements to attend CSULB. Recently, I received an email stating that the college is impacted (meaning they received more applications than spots available) and that they will not be capable of offering me admission in Fall 2016. While, this is devastating news I am certain that there is a positive result to this. I am very optimistic that I will find a alternative program or college that will belter suit me or that its not time for me to attend CSULB right now. I will continue to strive towards my goals and not allow this roadblock to defeat me.

  54. 1. The motivational skill I seem to use very often is rewarding myself. I do not reward myself with anything materialistic because material things have no meaning to me. I actually reward myself with naps. I work two jobs and I am a full time student so it is very rare when I get a goodnight sleep. So I let myself know that if I study or I finish a homework assignment then I can reward myself with a one hour nap. It really helps me get work done.

    2. The idea that I found most interesting from reading chapter one about motivation was the achievement motivational skill. I found this very interesting because without realizing this was a motivational skill I actually use it on a daily basis. I thrive off of achievements. I believe, as mentioned in chapter one, that this is also a bad thing because you can get overly stressed out for a situation that should not cause stress. Sometimes I can get so stressed that I start to get overwhelmed. I do like this motivational skill, but I feel like I need to learn how to better use the skill without stress.

    1. It is really difficult to have a full time job and be a full time student without getting overly stressed. Getting enough sleep is important for learning and memory. Consider taking only 2 courses. You will eventually reach your goal and maintain your good mental and physical health.

  55. As many of my classmates, I have different factors that influence how I keep myself motivated. For me, I have many reminders of my goals in places I spend most of my time. I think a constant reminder of your goals is a good away to keep yourself in check, on the right track and also to help motivate yourself. There is nothing more motivating than looking back as to "why" you decided to go down the road you did. I also envision my end goal and think about all of the work I have done thus far. In addition, I often think about all the people who have believed in me and who have sacrificed certain things to make sure that I have all the necessary tools to succeed. These are just a few things that I keep in mind and that gives me the motivation I need to keep pushing forward.

I took deep breath and decide that I will only keep two classes and drop the other two so I didn’t miss this semester without taking any classes.

Also I learned a lot from my past mistakes and I wouldn’t want to repeat that I think that keep me motivated to continue and think about what I did wrong and I wouldn’t want to repeat that, now I find it easier to manage my time and now that if I waste time on other things, school will get harder.

  58. I have been motivating myself to do well in college by focusing on how rewarding it will be to reach my goals. It has also helped a lot that since I play on a sports team it has kept me on track with my grades so I have to maintain focus. I also motivate myself by doing things that I like to do, I think that it is important to give yourself time to do something you enjoy outside of school once in a while. So I think that it is important that while one focuses on work and school it is essential to be happy outside of those places.

I don’t know if my internal clock is just all over the place or I am just unorganized. I think that I can resolve this problem by giving myself time limits that I have to accomplish a task during, because if not it could take me a really long time to do. 62. For me the best way to keep myself motivated is by setting and reaching all of my personal goals I have set out for myself. Someimes I have goals I have set for one day, one week, a month or a whole semester. I work everyday to reach these goals and after they are achieved I gain a little self happiness and motivation to keep on improving my life. The chapter one on College and Career success online made many points on how to stay persistent or self motivated but none were truly interesting to me as I have already seen and known about all of the ideas that were listed or suggested in that chapter. One thing I can say is that it does help reading all of the ways that you can be motivated as it is good for you to keep them in the back of your mind.

  63. For me this class is one that I do need for transfer so dropping it doesn't ever come across my mind, but one thing I do know is that even if I did not need this class I would still continue to take it because it can teach any student a lot of general and helpful things that can be applied in ones daily life. Some of the roadblocks in my life that I could occoasonially face or am facing right now are the people that do not want me to be successful. Throughout the life of any person there is always that one person or few people that smile at your failures and that get angry in your successful moments in life. Getting past these people and making sure they do not get in the way of my personal happiness and life goals will allow me to be successful. I can get through this roadblock because for me I believe that anyone trying to stand in your way of your dreams is there because you are doing something right that they envy. I do not find anything very interesting to me about anyone's posts or ideas that can be very useful to me as I have also thought about or already done the ones listed.

I motivate myself by pushing myself. By thinking positive. Personal motivation to me is a mind set. You can defeat yourself easily if your mindset is wrong. You have to think about your goals and what you want to achieve and push yourself no mateter what is thrown your way. I try my hardest to stay thinking positive because as soon as I go negative I'm ready to give up and quit. So I try to keep my head up keep pushing towards my goals.

So I to keep reminding myself that they are the reason I do it. Along with having the kids I still other commitments that I have to keep. So I have to find a balance.

  76. There is only one way for me to motivate myself to success in each step in my life and that is by being positive and a hard worker. Based on my experience, looking back to my life, how many hard steps I got in my way, and how much unexpected steps I had or faced through my life. Without positive thinking and hardworking, I couldn’t at least to be what I am so far…I am not saying that because I have a wonderful lifetime right now or a high position in work sector or whatever anyone can think that I reached so far but I am happy that I never let roadblocks that I got through my life cycle to avoid me to go to the next step or to learn. However, about dropping this class, this is the last thing that I ever think about because when I decide to take a step, I try to move on instead of any struggle or hardship I got in middle way. It’s so important to know from the beginning what we want even if the path to reach the goal is hard. Sometimes, after a while we find that we made the wrong decision but I motivate and convince myself this might be something to learn from.

I do realize that I have to finish my work to get all of those imaginations real. I also try to learn from my past experiences and never repeat the same mistakes i did back then. I am very proud of where I have got so far and I will be even prouder of myself when I pass all of my classes and transfer to a good university.
